Important update for BC residents and owners! The Government of British Columbia has made key amendments to housing regulations in response to feedback from industry stakeholders. Here's what you need to know:
- New notice period: The notice period for ending a tenancy on behalf of a purchaser has been adjusted from 4 months to 3 months. (NOT applicable to landlords who intend to personally move into the rental property, or have a close family member move in.)
- Dispute period: Adjusted from 30 days to 21 days. (NOT applicable to landlords who intend to personally move into the rental property, or have a close family member move in.)
- Effective date: These changes will take effect on August 21, 2024.
These adjustments aim to help first-time buyers, especially those under Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) programs, by ensuring alignment with mortgage commitments and possession requirements.
